Duck Mountain Provincial Park
With an area of 1,424 km2, the park is characterized by forested hills interspersed with lakes. River valleys, wetlands and streams are characteristic of the area's glacial origins and offer a wide array of recreational opportunities.
Sport fishing is a year round activity in the Duck Mountains. Open water and ice fishing is probably the most common activity in the park. You can find 12 species of fish in the many lakes and streams. Native species include lake trout, walleye, northern pike, perch, whitefish, and burbot. Stocked waters host brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, splake, smallmouth bass, and muskellunge.
Duck Mountain Provincial Park has an abundance of lakes, and the majority are within a 20 mile radius of our lodge. Most have road access or can be reached by a short walk or portage. Lakes with road access have excellent docking facilities. The lodge is located on the largest lake in the park. Childs Lake is known for its crystal clear water fed by underground springs. The perfect environment for Lake Trout! |
Where to find the fish |
The Duck Mountains are becoming a mecca for fly fishing enthusiasts. Most of the lakes in the park are heavily tree lined, so while very scenic, it also requires you to fish with a tube or boat. So far, Master Angler Splake, Rainbows, Brookies and Browns have been caught with fly gear. If you're truly adventurous, try fishing Northern Pike with fly gear. What a fight!!
Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling is a very popular winter activity in the Duck Mountains. Travel groomed snowmobile trails that meander throughout the park, or ride the wide open spaces across the lakes. Some 450 miles of trails are cleared, signed and groomed for your enjoyment by the Inter-Mountain Snowmobile Club in Grandview.
Cross country ski trails are also groomed for your enjoyment.

Watersports
When the summer days are long and hot, head for the cool refreshing water of Childs Lake. Recreational activities are limitless. Adjacent to the lodge is a sandy public beach, playground and volleyball net that kids (and adults) just can't avoid.
